Abstract:
When construction delays on a bridge to replace the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Washington, DC, forced the placement of concrete during the winter, the contractor chose to use hydronic heaters for curing rather than traditional tarping and heating. Using a total of nine hydronic heaters and 90,000 ft2 (8360 m2) of insulation blankets, the placement of 13,000 yd3 (9940 m3) of concrete was completed within the project schedule.
