Abstract:
A primer on replacing a portion of the portland cement with fly ash in a concrete mixture is provided in this article. To help engineers unfamiliar with its effects better understand how fly ash will change the properties of the mixture, the author describes the effects on plastic and hardened properties at both typical and high-volume replacement levels. Obstacles to the increased use of fly ash are also presented.
