Abstract:
Class F fly ash can help mitigate alkali-silica reaction and improve the sulfate resistance of concrete, but it can also extend setting time and reduce early- and mid-age strength development in concrete mixtures. Using an innovative processing method, fly ash with increased reactivity that overcomes these issues can be produced. Concrete using this fly ash to replace 25% of the Type II cement in a mixture can provide sulfate resistance with performance equivalent to concrete made with Type V cement.
