Abstract:
Vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) is an alternative to the traditional hand lay-up method used in most infrastructure-related applications of fiber reinforced polymers. This newly introduced technique to civil infrastructure uses technology from the automotive, watercraft, and aerospace industries to infuse fabrics with resin after the fabrics have been put in place. Following laboratory studies, this technique was used to repair cracks in a prestressed girder on I-565 in Huntsville, AL.
