Abstract:
While preparing the demolition program for a 10-story, post-tensioned parking structure in Toronto, two methods of tendon detensioning were considered and presented to the contractor. The contractor chose to saw cut the tendons in a fully tensioned condition, requiring a careful examination of the possibility of high-velocity ejection of the tendons from the slabs and beams. The procedures used and the successful experience with this demolition method are documented in this article.
