Abstract:
Although all multistory buildings require multiple slab penetrations, concrete design courses typically cover this topic only briefly. The authors of this article offer guidance for selecting floor opening locations in both new and existing two-way slabs. Methods for strengthening existing slabs to accommodate new openings are also introduced.
