Abstract:
In many areas, there is a growing shortage of natural sand that’s suitable for use in concrete. One solution is the use of manufactured sands from crushed rock production. However, the particle shape and high fines content of manufactured sand can increase water demand and make the concrete difficult to pump and finish. These problems can be overcome by relating the properties of the sand to concrete characteristics. In this article, a new particle image analyzer that can help determine these relationships by quickly and accurately characterizing the sand is introduced.
