Abstract:
Paper summarizes the strength and constructibility features derived from the use of swaged reinforcement splices in the construction of a 1/6-scale model of a reinforced concrete reactor containment vessel ("The Model"). Standard and prototype splices and swaging presses were utilized to assemble complex and intricate preassembled reinforcement patterns in the highly congested concrete structure. Also summarized is the splice selection for the Model, a description of the equipment employed, prequalification and inspection requirements, and the performance of the splices above reinforcement yield strain.
