Abstract:
Research effort is underway to provide an effective concrete deck repair method by injecting and overlaying low viscosity adhesive material into the delaminated deck. The objective behind this research is to detect the delaminations in concrete bridge decks and inject low viscosity adhesive materials into voids so theoretically the decks can be glued together in order to restore some of its original strength and prevent further deterioration. A demonstration project of this repair technique was organized in association with the Michigan Department of Transportation at Saginaw District, Michigan. Altogether, a sample of three bridges were considered for this demonstration. Out of these bridges, one was considered for injection and the other two were considered for overlay. This paper describes the injection and overlaying procedures of low viscosity adhesive material for this type of repair. Also, given an idea about future modification to make this repair method more effective. The plan for future monitoring of this bridges is also discussed.
