Abstract:
There are approximately 600,750 bridges on the public roads in the United States, about 34.4 percent of which need repair or replacement. Although many of the bridges identified as being structurally deficient or functionally obsolete are older structures, there is equal concern for the premature deterioration of newer structures. In order to enhance the efficiency of bridge repair system, a comprehensive study is being conducted by the University of Nebraska s Center for Infrastructure Research in association with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Omaha District). This study is titled "Polymer Injection /Ultrasonic Pulse-Echo (PORT/UPE) System for Concrete Bridge Repair." This project is sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a part of the Construction Productivity Advancement Research (CPAR) program.
