Abstract:
The conservation of reinforced concrete elements presents a challenge from a historical preservation point of view, wherein the corrosion must be stopped without significantly damaging the outer appearance. One possible solution involves saturating the concrete element with durable and colorless polymers. By means of corrosion-current measurements, it has been shown that water penetration, and subsequently, corrosion of the steel, can be stopped as a result of acrylate saturation of the capillary pore system.
