Abstract:
The Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel under the Suez Canal involved many unique design considerations including specially designed tunnel shield, precast concrete tunnel liner segments, flexible tunnel liner assembly, and joint sealing techniques. This article covers the design criteria and construction techniques employed on this 2.6 mile (4.2 km) long tunnel.
