Abstract:
This fifth report of ACI Committee 212, Admixtures, updates the previous reports fo 1944, 1954, 1963, and 1971. In this report, the general purposes and precautions for the use of admixtures are discussed as well as the methods of their storage and use. Admixtures are classified into five groups: (1) accelerating; (2) air-entraining; (3) water-reducing and set-controlling; (4) finely divided mineral; and (5) miscellaneous. This last group is subdivided into 11 categories according to the characteristic effects of their use. Those admixtures possessing properties identifiable with more than one group are discussed with the group that describes its most important effect on concrete.
