Abstract:
In the 1982 Davis Lecture, the author discusses Raymond E. Davis's life and his achievements as a teacher, researcher, and engineer. The historical background of the Engineering Materials Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, and Professor Davis’s role in its development are also discussed. The author, a former Davis student and colleague, summarizes the lessons he learned from Professor Davis about finding “concrete solutions for concrete problems.”
