Abstract:
Six large beams with overhangs and various levels of post-tensioning and stirrup reinforcement were tested. The results were compared to predictions given by the modified compression field theory, truss model design approach, and the current ACI Building Code. The comparison showed that both the modified compression field theory and the truss model approach yielded results that were consistent with the specimen behaviors. The current ACI Building Code overestimated the flexural capacity of the beams and underestimated their shear capacity with respect to the applied loading conditions.
