Abstract:
The Tureyen and Frosch one-way shear design model is used as a basis to develop a procedure for estimating the punching shear capacity of column-supported two-way slabs reinforced with either steel bars or FRP bars or grids. Comparisons are made with the results of punching shear tests on 138 steel-reinforced and 27 FRP-reinforced slabs to show that the proposed equation leads to conservative predictions of punching shear capacities. In addition to being simple, the model rationally accounts for the effect of the longitudinal reinforcement stiffness on the shear strength of rectangular concrete slabs without transverse reinforcement.
