Abstract:
Petrochemical plants often use gas-engine compressors to compress the mixture of gases required to fuel the plant processes. During the construction of a new plant in 1963, three identical compressors were installed on concrete foundations. Eventually, all three foundations cracked, causing mechanical problems in the machines and necessitating repair of the foundations. This article outlines the original foundation design and installation procedures and the current repair solution.
