Abstract:
This article deals primarily with the field problem of surface popouts from concrete slabs due to the alkali-silica reaction between reactive sand and the equivalent sodium oxide in the concrete mixture. Preventative measures suggest the use of silica fumes. A new test is proposed to evaluate the effect of the various concrete materials, including the silica fumes on these surface popouts.
