Abstract:
An international industrial research consortium was created in 1991 to initiate a major laboratory and field test program. The major goal of this Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology (CANMET) venture is to develop an engineering data base on the long-term effectiveness of supplementary cementing materials in reducing and/or controlling expansion in concrete due to alkali-aggregate reactivity. Research concluded thus far indicates that ready-mixed concrete producers should start using supplementary cementing materials routinely. CANMET officials plan to continue to monitor the performance of test specimens at two exposure sites and publish results at frequent intervals.
