Abstract:
Reviews some of the reinforced concrete design and construction practices that were current at the turn of the century and compares them with those of the present day. In particular, the various types of reinforcing bars and reinforcing systems have been highlighted because these contrast so markedly with present practice. Extensive references have been made to the earliest books on reinforced concrete practice published in the United States.
