Abstract:
The need for admixtures that function best in the intermediate slump range of 5 to 8 in. (125 to 200 mm) has led to the introduction of a new class of admixtures referred to as mid-range water-reducing admixtures. Different types of these admixtures are described with particular emphasis on the industry’s first water-reducing and accelerating mid-range admixture. This particular formulation, which was developed to address cement shortage problems, permits the use of increased levels of fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag without sacrificing setting and early-age strength development.Cracking found in the pilings was attributed to overdriving. Core samples were taken to study chloride penetration and carbonation. A detailed discussion of an underwater inspection program is provided.
