Abstract:
In the last few years my firm has carried out condition surveys of about 100 reinforced concrete structures in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E). Each survey consisted of a visual inspection, a delamination survey, and a cover-meter survey to determine the depth of concrete cover to the reinforcement. Also, dust samples were taken to determine the chloride and sulphate concentrations, the depth of carbonation was determined using phenolphthalein, the quality of the concrete cover was determined using the Schmidt hammer, and cores were drilled for visual examination and to test for compressive strength, etc…The cholride content results were reviewed in a previous article.
