Abstract:
The effectiveness of shear reinforcement in slabs is dependent on its anchorage. It is shown that the yield strength cannot be developed in conventional stirrups because of slip at the bends. Stud shear reinforcement provides superior mechanical anchorage and results in higher punching shear resistance and more ductility. A comparison of test results on slabs with the two types of shear reinforcement is presented.
