Abstract:
Nearly all of the aggregates available in New Mexico, under the right conditions, have the potential to cause alkali-silica reaction (ASR) in concrete. New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department (NMDOT) decided to revise their concrete specifications for ASR mitigation. Once the revisions began, however, the agency felt a complete overhaul of all concrete specifications was warranted. This article describes how NMDOT revised their concrete specifications.
