Abstract:
The need to categorize the various cementitious and allied materials used n concrete has led to a certain classification. While it is convenient to have such a classification and a uniformity in nomenclature, I feel that the present system does not correspond to the actual usage of the various materials and is, in fact, inimical to their more widespread use. This paper presents therefore a general discussion of the cementitious materials used in concrete but without describing the various types of portland cement.
