Abstract:
In April 1993, construction began for a six-story 105-unit subsidized housing project with two levels of underground parking. As the consulting engineers for the project, we designed the reinforced concrete structure. Although we had specified the concrete strength, and in some instances requested minimum water-cement ratios, the concrete supplier was responsible for the design of the concrete mixes. Quality control of the concrete, which was supplied by a mojor manufacturer, was performed by and independent materials testing company. They obtained test cylinders at regular intervals from the concrete being delivered to the site.
