Abstract:
With increasing traffic volumes, it is increasingly important to minimize lane closure times. This has often been accomplished using proprietary binder systems. Advances in chemical admixtures now allow portland cement to be used as the binder for rapid strength concrete that will meet very aggressive early age strength requirements. This article documents laboratory and field data with rapid strength concrete. In addition, a simplified maturity method is discussed to facilitate opening pavement to traffic.
