Abstract:
The Texas Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, in cooperation with the Center for Transportation Research at the University of Texas at Austin, have sponsored the design and construction of two high-performance concrete (HPC) bridge projects in Texas. This article discusses cost comparisons that can be made at this early stage of HPC implementation in Texas bridges. The San Angelo HPC bridge project is looked at in detail because of its higher-than-expected bid costs, followed by a brief comparison with the Louetta Road Overpass HPC project, which had bid costs comparable to non-HPC U-beam bridges.
