Abstract:
Like many areas of concrete construction, precast concrete producers are constantly being challenged to maintain quality and profitability while facing issues such as increasing utility rates, escalating skilled labor wages, and rising material and equipment costs. This article examines the effects of a new admixture on early-strength development and modulus of elasticity properties for “zero energy” concrete versus conventional concrete. Because polycarboxylate -based admixtures can be engineered to perform well in a specific application, a new admixture was developed to provide high-early-strength gain to self-consolidating concrete mixtures for use in precast applications.
