Abstract:
Fifty years ago, I started to work for the Portland Cement Association (PCA). During the last 50 years, we have had five international meetings on the chemistry of cement, 10 on alkali-aggregate reaction, and numerous national, regional, and international ones on sulfate attack on concrete. Why are we still studying chemical attack? Because engineers have been doing the chemistry; and chemists have not.
