Abstract:
By opening day of the 2004 Major League Baseball season, the city of San Diego, CA, will have its own state-of-the-art ballpark to rival the best major sports facilities in the United States. To achieve the speed and accuracy the job demanded, Morley Construction Co., structural concrete subcontractor to general contractor San Diego Ballpark Builders, quickly realized that conventional building layout techniques could not be used because of the numerous and complex coordinates requiring calculation. Possessing unique grid angles within its design, the structure has coordinates that were difficult and time-consuming to calculate manually. However, using AutoCad® files furnished by the architect, along with special surveying software, precise, computer-generated coordinate points were determined quickly and were easily downloaded into the layout data collectors.
