Abstract:
This article reports on design guidelines and present experience in the use of FRP composites for the internal reinforcement of structures. FRP bars have been, and are being, used to replace conventional steel reinforcement for a host of reasons, but perhaps the most relevant is that of prevention of reinforcement corrosion. Some questions remain pertaining to specifications, test methods, detailing, validation and long-term durability (including fire resistance). Resolving these issues will increase the degree of confidence in the technology and allow for its more economical exploitation.
