Abstract:
This paper reports the experimentally observed shear behavior of eight reinforced concrete beams. In five of these beams, the concrete was epoxy-modified by replacing 20% by weight of the cement with epoxy. Moreover, three of the epoxy-modified concrete beams contained stirrups and each had two test regions, giving six test results. Hence, a total of 11 test results are reported. The concrete cube compressive strength ranged from approximately 30 to 80 MPa (4500 to 11,350 psi), and the transverse reinforcement factor r fy from 0 to approximately 0.64 MPa (92 psi). The first objective of the experimental testing was to study the effects of using epoxy-modified concrete on the shear capacity of longitudinally reinforced beams with variable concrete strength. The second objective was to check the behavior of 60 and 80 MPa epoxy-modified concrete beams with relatively low levels of transverse reinforcement. The paper also compares the experimental results with the calculations of the ACI Code, AASHTO LRFD Specifications, and the Canadian building code.
