Abstract:
Double-head studs can be used as main reinforcement in corbels. This is demonstrated by tests on six reinforced concrete corbels subjected to vertical and horizontal forces. The main tension reinforcement consisted of deformed and smooth studs with welded or forged anchor heads. The strut-and-tie model can accurately predict the ultimate strength of the corbel. Use of double-head studs eliminates the need for welding often used to anchor the corbel’s main reinforcement. Benefits include economy and avoidance of reinforcement congestion.
