Abstract:
The 2002 version of the ACI Code contains two separate methods for obtaining strength reduction factors j: (1) based on the factored loads; and (2) based on the tensile strain in the tension-side reinforcing steel layer located furthest from the compression face of the member at nominal strength. This article explains the second method.
