Abstract:
Durability has become an important issue in all types of construction as owners, engineers, and even the general public have become aware of the high cost of repairs. In the post-tensioning industry, the importance of ensuring durability is reflected in ACI 423.6-01 “Specification for Unbonded Single Strand Tendons” recently adopted by ASCE-ACI Joint Committee 423. The Specification is based on guide specifications developed by the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) and includes requirements for the post-tensioning coating, the sheathing, and protection of the anchorages. Understanding a little about the development of the post-tensioning industry and the history of the current ACI Specification can be very helpful when doing an evaluation or developing a repair program for a post-tensioned building.
