Abstract:
Many quality control-quality assurance (QC/QA) specifications shift responsibility of day-to-day testing at construction sites from state departments of transportation to contractors. This article presents an overview of new QC/QA concrete specifications being used by Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet. Recent studies have led to a “special note” for QC/QA concrete. This special note encourages contractors to produce a consistent and acceptable product through the offering of incentives for high quality and quick completion of the project. Written with quality and innovation in mind; the special note allows use of ACI 318 procedures for concrete mixture proportioning as well as recipe mixtures of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
