Abstract:
The remains of the S. S. Atlantus, one of a dozen concrete ships built as the result of steel shortages at the end of World War I, lies near the shores of Cape May in southern New Jersey. The cargo vessel made several trips along the eastern seaboard before running aground during an Atlantic storm in 1926. The brief era of the concrete ships is recorded in the pages of the Proceedings of the American Concrete Institute during that period.
