Abstract:
The My Thuan Bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam and the second crossing over the Mekong River. The 23.6 m (77.5 ft) wide in-place concrete deck is supported by two planes of stay cables anchored from two H-shaped towers 120 m (394 ft) high. The bridge, opened to traffic on May 21, 2001, is not only a landmark structure, but also will play an important role in the social and economic development of the Mekong Delta region in Vietnam. The construction was completed six months ahead of schedule through careful planning, innovative and practical construction engineering, effective monitoring, and geometry control.
