Abstract:
This paper discusses the simplified limit method by Bkaer and the generalized compatiblity equation by Munro. A modified procedure by adjustment of rotations is proposed to the simplified limit method. The procedure is shown through examples to provide rapid convergence for solution. A computer program is presented in this paper for the analysis of reinforced concrete frames for five different cases of hinge pattern under two ultimate loading conditions. Three multi-story frames have been designed to illustrate the use of this program. The salient details of deisgn and results of analysis are presented. The amount of moment redistribution in theses frames is discussed. These frames have been tested analytically for the actual load at failure by a separate program developed for the inelastic stage-by-stage analysis of reinforced concrete frames. It is concluded that the ultimate load analysis program presented here is useful to the design engineers. Based on this investigation reccommendations are made for the ultimate load design of reinforced concrete frames.
