Abstract:
Lafarge’s Agilia is being called a "self-placing concrete." Now, don’t get your hopes up! The company’s specialty concrete doesn’t batch itself at the plant, take off, find its way to the job site, and once there, plop all by itself into forms. Externally applied mixing, conveying, and installation procedures are still a must. Still, less dramatic terminology, such as "self-accommodating concrete," might be more appropriate in describing briefly the concrete’s self-leveling, self-compacting properties that permit easier installation and working on the job site.
