Abstract:
The use of elemental sulfur with aggregates to make a sulfur concrete has been attempted for years. Commercial sulfur concretes use a chemical modifier to stabilize the sulfur such that the crystal structure will not change, resulting in good strength characteristics. Sulfur concretes have been in industrial use since the late 1970s. The ability of the modifier to stabilize the sulfur is proven by the performance of the material over this period of time. Older installations of sulfur concrete are examined, and the performance of the material rated.
