Abstract:
An octahedral representation of the m ultiaxial stresses train relations for concrete, assuming isotropic, nonlinear behavior, is outlined, following an earlier study. A simplified formulation of the octahedral stress strain relations is suggested for general triaxial stress states, leading to linearly varying tangent bulk and shear moduli. A coupling modulus is introduced to account for volume changes due to stress deviation. The results of several triaxial tests, following different load histories, are used to verify the effectiveness of the formulation. Good correlation is obtained in most cases. The limitations of the method are discussed, and the need for additional tests is pointed out.
