Abstract:
Presents field applications of a relatively new and unknown repair method for concrete structures (prestressed and non-stressed) that may have a great potential and important economical consequences in the near future. The method consists of externally bonding to the concrete surface flexible sheets made of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) composites. Depending on the type of application, the function of the externally bonded reinforcement may be any combination of the following: strengthening, stiffening, crack arrest, and corrosion protection. All the examples presented are taken from Japan, visited in the Spring-Summer of 1994.
