Abstract:
A two-way concrete slab with beam is modified in that a thick flat slab is replaced with a significantly thinner slab and stiffener beams in each direction. As a result, it is a lighter slab system when compared with other two-way slab systems of the same depth and/or capacity. To lower the cost of formwork, a new type of void form is suggested. Finite element analyses were performed on the modified two-way slab, as well as a flat slab and two waffle slabs. Each analysis included force components, deflections, and natural frequency.
