Abstract:
This article shows that the design capacity of slabs on grade including airfields, highway pavements and industrial floors is governed by the thickness and the square of the depth. By increasing the depth it is possible to reduce the required tension or flexural strength of the concrete. Actual examples show the cost advantages that can result from such changes.
