Abstract:
This paper examines the effect that current developments in interoperability between industry support software systems will have on the practicing concrete industry. The paper is largely directed towards the needs of small to intermediate size members of the industry who cannot afford high overhead costs to implement interoperability in the context of their own needs. Interoperability tools such as STEP are discussed and less massive alternatives are suggested. These would permit the larger ‘core model’ concept to evolve based on the visible success of smaller applications. The issue of legacy interoperability is introduced, as are practical issues in project management interoperability.
