Abstract:
Although the scaling of concrete flatwork has been extensively studied for many years, the problem has not gone away. Are the guidelines for producing scale-resistant concrete not always followed? Are the guidelines being followed much of the time, but are they deficient in some respects? Are there other factors affecting scaling that have not been recognized or adequately addressed? The author believes that the answer is yes to all of these questions. The article discusses how their resolution might lead to a mitigation of the concrete scaling problem.
