Abstract:
This article discusses the weather conditions that cause rapid evaporation and practical methods to protect concrete. It discusses the knowledge and equipment needed to recognize and prevent dehydration of the concrete surface. Relative humidity, wind speed, concrete temperature, and ambient temperature are the four factors that drive evaporation. The impact of each factor is quantified. The strategies to prevent surface defects are fog misting, evaporation retardants, reschedule concreting, and fast finishing and curing. The article provides resources for additional information and training.
