Abstract:
The first paved road and two of the concrete bridges built in the Columbia River valley east of Portland, Ore., were constructed between 1913 and 1922. Today, a drive along the old road above the valley provides some spectacular scenery. The feats of some of the men who were most responsible for the design and building of this road are described.
